The Preston Summer Basketball League, hosted by Preston Pride...

... got off to a great start in the tournament's first year. 4 teams were in action in round 1 where first up a very strong Blackpool team beat a valiant effort from Lancaster Lions 85-45.

Pride were up second fielding a mixed team of experienced first teamers and under 18 lads which was great to see with different age groups working together. Blackburn fielded an energetic team who kept intensity high throughout. After a tight first quarter where Blackburn led 18-17, Pride turned up the scoring, increasing the quarter output to 19, 21 & 22 in the 4th. Power forward Jamie Defoe provided most of the offensive spark with big man Paulino Vasquez effective inside working with Craig Inness. Barish Salih provided pace on the fast break and Piotr Putselnik put in an extremely classy performance providing a team and tournament high 7 assists. The younger lads brought some real sparks of talent too with Miki Sampson drawing some fouls to get to the charity stripe and Luke Hughes knocking in 7 points. Jackson and Schofield contributed with no turnovers and team captain Danny Farnell showed some silky footwork under the basket, putting in 11.

MVP went to Jamie Defoe for a 24 point performance including 3 blocks, 1 especially huge pinning against the backboard.
