A roundup of the winners of our prestigious individual awards

Throughout our awards evening there was acknowledgement for individuals who the committee felt deserved an individual award based on their commitments to our club.
Whilst there were many potential winners for these awards, the committee deliberated (for seemingly hours!) and decided on the below winners;

Coach of the Year - Shaun Hoyle
The committee felt as though Hoyle deserved this recognition due to his commitment and effort with the U12 team this season. He combined his coaching experience with new tactics and approaches learned from his degree studies, to create accommodating and fun sessions which is reflected in the numbers attending! This was recognised by being shortlisted for the same award at the Preston Sports Awards earlier this year.

Volunteer of the Year - Christos Gaitatzis
Christos dedicated countless hours to the U16's this year, leading may of them in their first game experiences! He brought a real professionalism to the club this year and has set a high standard for his successor!

ACE Award - Andrew Thrower
The only trophy given which did not need much discussion! Andy has been ever-present for the club this year, dedicating many hours to the club both on court, and behind the scenes managing our (at times scary) financial status. At a time where the club may not have existed due to outstanding payments, Andy has tightened everything up and brought the club round to a comfortable point where we can continue to provide high level basketball for all in Lancashire.

Defensive Player of the Year - Isaac Fitzpatrick
This year has seen a significant change in the role and attitude taken on by Isaac as part of our Senior 2nd Team. He has become a turn to player to defend the opposition's best player, and has shown a willingness and confidence in doing so. A well deserved award and a player which we can't wait to see progress further!

Special Achievement Award - Rick Szostak and the Senior 1st Team
This year saw a huge turn around in the on-court performances and results for the Senior 1st Team, who at the end of last season saw themselves relegated from the top division. Under the guidance of Coach Rick, the team were more structured and focussed and it showed, winning all but one game this season, finishing as MABL double winners, topping their league and winning the Play-Off weekend too.

Chairperson's Award - Paulino Vasquez
Paulino has been a key feature of the Senior teams at Preston Pride for many years and has continued to be so this year. Despite being a tough year for him personally, Paulino never wavered, often volunteering himself to play for the Senior 2nd Team for games where they were short of players. He has also actively helped out junior players by rebounding for them or offering advice, coming to training early to help out.

Hall of Fame Inductees - Phil Holden, Jane Plumb & Darren Moss
Phil Holden - Many of the club's older players and coaches know Phil from being 'the godfather of basketball in Penwortham'. He helped deliver junior basketball in Penwortham even before Preston Pride had been established.

Jane Plumb - Jane was the chairperson of the club for many years and her big passion was to keep Preston Pride a community focussed club. This showed with the creation of a girls team and an Under 12's. Her relentless pursuit of funding and accreditation helped to build the outstanding reputation of the club and cement it's place as one of the areas biggest and most successful junior clubs.

Darren Moss - Darren has been a member of Preston Pride since even before Preston Pride had been established. Starting as a junior player at Penwortham, he came across to Preston Pride once the two teams amalgamated and almost immediately helped behind the scenes, serving numerous years as a team manager and most recently as the Vice-Chair of the Senior section. Darren recently announced his retirement from playing after winning his second Play-Off competition in as many years. A sore loss for the Senior 2nd Team, but an even bigger loss for the club!

Not a congratulations but rather a huge THANK YOU to all 3 of these inductees to our Hall of Fame, all of whom have left their mark on the club and helped us be where we are today!
