The GLL Preston Sports Awards take place on Friday 22nd March...

... and Preston Pride Community Basketball Club have been shortlisted for 3 awards.

The PSA are now into their 14th year and Pride have received great representation recognising the fantastic achievements the club and its members has attained in the 18/19 season. After an extensive nomination process across all sports over the whole Preston region, we have been placed on 3 shortlists for awards.

The Club itself is up for Community Club of the Year sponsored by Ambulant Physiotheraphy Ltd. Throughout the year the club has grown in players, members and supporters and is regularly in the top 10 netball and basketball websites by traffic on the Pitchero network. With over 90 players across Senior Mens, Under 18s, Under 16s, Under 14s and the growing 11 and Under team, it has a huge impact on basketball in the Preston and Lancashire area.

Shaun Hoyle is the 2nd club member shortlisted for Coach of the Year sponsored by BMW Bowker. Shaun has been a massive part of Preston Pride having represented the club at most age groups. He is a qualified level 2 coach with Basketball England and this season has taken responsibility of growing the future of the club, the 11 and Under session. From just 1 player at the start of the season, the age group now has regular attendance numbers of 10-15 each week with well over 20 different children coming to play. This is in the main down to Shaun's fantastic coaching style which brings fun and enjoyment with a structured approach working on core movement techniques and developing core skills.

Andrew Thrower is the 3rd member shortlisted for Volunteer of The Year (aged 25 plus) sponsored by the Centre of Volunteering and Community Leadership at UCLan. Andrew took over the role of Club Treasurer in May 17 at a time when the club was experiencing significant financial challenges with an uncertain future. Through introducing professional systems and processes, such as digital payments through Pitchero, working with suppliers and coaches, and communicating with the teams, the club is now in a fantastic position going forward to continue providing a market leading experience in the local area for all ages to come and play basketball.

All members of the coaching staff and committee volunteer their time to support the club and to keep it running smoothly. We're sure you'll all join together in wishing the club and nominees the best of luck at the awards on Friday 22nd March.
