Following on from the significant growth of the Junior section of Preston Basketball from our Under 7, Under 9 and Under 11 sessions, the club has been working on ways to incorporate competition into the training schedule. Our partnership with Myerscough college has opened significant opportunities for players in the local area to develop and Sunday 2nd November saw the first central development league tournament for our Under 11 players.
Over 30 boys and girls filled 3 courts at Myerscough's basketball academy for a round robin tournament where all children played 5 games, some seeing competitive basketball for the first time. On arrival the players were allocated their team coach who were a mix of Preston Basketball coaches and Myerscough's talented Division 1 team players. This created a brilliant atmosphere and friendly rivalry amongst the teams with future superstar basketball players cheering on the younger future superstars.
The event was a huge success with all teams competing brilliantly and giving their all. Team yellow coached by the brilliant Junior were crowned champions but judging by the smiles on every face in the building, all of the children were winners. To view the photos click here.
We can't wait to roll out these tournaments to our younger age groups and we will be announcing the next Under 11 date very soon.
Huge thanks to Neal and his team at Myerscough for their coaching, organising and hosting of a brilliant event.
The future is very bright.
