This much needed victory brought an end to a tough run of narrow losses. The guys have been fantastic at keeping spirits high through a difficult period, continuing to work hard and support each other. It was a great feeling to come out the other side and hopefully this will spark us back into life. In the past few games we had performed well in many areas but been let down by one (always different) facet of our play each time. This time, we always felt like the dominant team. Steelers had experience though and it took some time to create the separation we were craving.
Despite finding that we were able to penetrate almost at will, we continued to get pegged back by their strong inside finishing. Through the penetration Ewan offered, getting to the basket, or the line, with ease and Theo's immaculate shooting night we took an eight-point lead into halftime.
The second half brought real strength from the Preston team however. Nathaniel in particular began to get joy against tired legs, running the fast break in an unstoppable manner. Our aggression on the boards was increasingly excellent too, with Pauli taking endless athletic rebounds and debutant, Andy, working tirelessly inside ensuring the game remained well out of High Peaks reach. It gave us a chance to get a good run of minutes for valued patient squad members through the second half, and a particular treat for the fans as Matt penetrated the paint with power for the game's highlight!
